Why Sarah Sykes Pilates?

Choosing a Pilates instructor is one of the most important decisions you can make for your body.

With Pilates becoming increasingly popular, there are now more classes, more studios and more reformer sessions available than ever before. While this is great news for the profession, it can make it difficult to know where to start.

So what should you look for?

For me, it begins with understanding that Pilates is not simply a collection of exercises.

It is a method.

And like any method, the results depend on the skill of the person teaching it.

I Don’t Teach Exercises. I Teach People.

Every client arrives with a different story.  Different movement habits.  Different strengths.  Different restrictions.  Different goals.

My role is not to put everybody through the same workout. My role is to understand the person in front of me and create the most appropriate pathway for them.

Sometimes that means building strength.  Sometimes it means restoring mobility.  Sometimes it means improving balance, confidence or body awareness.

The exercises may look similar from the outside, but the thinking behind them is always individual.

Seeing What Others Miss

Movement is full of subtle details.

A shoulder that always wants to lift.

A hip that never quite accepts load.

A foot that changes the way the entire body functions.

These small details often explain why somebody continues to experience stiffness, recurring discomfort or frustration despite exercising regularly.

Over years of teaching I have developed a reputation for identifying movement patterns that may have been overlooked elsewhere.

Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I look for the movement strategies that may be contributing to them.

This investigative approach forms the foundation of my work.

Experience Matters

Pilates is currently an unregulated profession, which means training standards can vary enormously.

As a client, it is perfectly reasonable to ask about qualifications, experience and continuing professional development before deciding who to trust with your body.

I am comprehensively trained through Body Control Pilates and Balanced Body and have undertaken extensive additional education in movement analysis, rehabilitation, biomechanics and specialist Pilates training.

I continue to invest heavily in my professional development because the more I learn, the more effectively I can help my clients.

Individual Attention

One of the greatest challenges in any movement environment is observation.

The more people moving at once, the harder it becomes to see the finer details that matter.

My approach allows me to work closely with each client, providing detailed feedback, individual coaching and carefully selected exercises based on their needs rather than a standardised programme.

This creates a very different experience from simply following a sequence of exercises.

The Architecture of Movement

Most people don't need harder exercise. They need smarter movement.

Whether your goal is to stay active, improve strength, recover from injury or simply move with greater ease, my aim is always the same: to help you move better in everyday life.
